Alex Pratt
Alexander Pratt is a multidisciplinary artist from St. John's, Newfoundland. He received his bachelor of arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2024 after transferring from Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie, Alberta, in 2021; he also holds a BSc with focus on earth science from Memorial University in Newfoundland. Alex uses his keen observational skills from his time studying geology and combines them with various painting, printmaking, and drawing techniques to explore the places and spaces around him. Paying particular attention to the mood and atmosphere Alex enjoys showcasing the juxtaposition between nature and the built environment. During his time at NSCAD Alex's work has been included in a number of group shows as well as his solo graduation exhibit, "Tanks A Lot!" His solo show included a selection of prints, paintings, and drawings which depicted industrial and residential oil tanks. To Alex, these tanks represent modern comforts but are also a reminder of the impact the industry has had on our planet. This duality was shown in the artwork, manifesting itself as an uneasy atmosphere superimposed on an otherwise benign object or scene. In his final semester in Grande Prairie, Alex's work and dedication were recognized when he received the Carmen & Gail Haakstad and Family Award.
